February Fleet Magazine Article

Posted on Sunday, February 14, 2010, 6:53 pm, by Rebecca, under Information, News.

2010 started with children and staff returning back from the Christmas holidays full of energy from their break and the children bringing news of what they received for Christmas.  The Christmas party and Sing-along which were both enjoyed the previous term, had obviously not worn the children out too much!! There have already been some new faces amongst the children starting this term and some children are attending more sessions.

The children returned back in January to the topic thread of ‘Winter’ with real snow everywhere.  They helped make the snowman wall display and learnt a new snowman rhyme which involved dressing up a child as the snowman.

The playground was a bit too slippery with ice to let the children play out in the snow but they were able to play inside with snow using the tough spot.  This was filled with snow allowing the children to touch the snow and feel its texture and temperature!

They later covered the topic thread of ‘The Post Office’, where they looked at numbers of houses to help with delivery; and designed their own stamps!  The teachers set up a mini post office for the children to use through role play.

The children were able to help make a skeleton collage and looked at what might make you healthy, what’s good and bad to eat under the topic thread of ‘Doctors’  as well as using a programme on the computer about doctors. There was also opportunity for the children to dress up as doctors and nurses.

February will see the children look at the topic thread of ‘Dinosaurs’ where the children will create sponge, stencil dinosaurs and dinosaur egg collages.  They may help to create a fossil display for the wall.  Later they will look at the thread of ‘Food’ before Half Term.
